The Rotary West Association of RMW runs two Rotary Schools : (a) Rotary West School, Saraswathipuram established in 1985 and, (b) Rotary West School, Kanakadasanagar established in 2003 for classes from Nursery to Class 10.
The Club established the Paul Harris Vocational Training Institute (PHVTI) at the Rotary West School Kanakadasanagar complex on 27 September 2003 for providing vocational skill training especially to girls, women, disabled persons,etc from economically weaker sections of society. Training in tailoring, embroidery, make-up, bag-making, dolls-making, costume jewellery, computer skills, solar-eqpt repairs, etc are conducted. This is a self-sustaining enterprise.
In the year 1995 Rotary Club of Mysore West partnered with the Parent Association of Deaf Children to establish the Rotary West Institute for Mother and Deaf Child(RWIMDC), for children born with hearing disabilities. Deaf children at a very young age, ideally below 3 years of age, are enrolled and mothers are required to compulsorily attend the school with their children. They are trained in Woodford aural method. This Institute is located in Thonachikoppal Layout in Mysuru.
The ongoing projects of the Club include Polio Plus program; TEACH project in rural government schools; Save-a-Child project with Kamakshi Hospital for treating children born with congenital defects; RMW-JSS Jeevodaya Dental Clinic at Mysore Central Jail with JSS Dental College & Hospital, for dental care of prisoners; Rotary Asha Kiran project for rehabilitation of orphaned children; etc. The Club received the “Significant Achievement Award”, the highest Community Service Award from Rotary International for its Save-a-Child project.
